Frequently Asked Questions

Home ReSource is a non-profit salvage and surplus building supplies yard, and a program of the Community Alliance of Yampa Valley.

We work with builders and Routt County residents who bring us their surplus and reusable building materials.

We sort these items, price them,  and make available for resale to the public.

Deconstruction involves carefully dismantling a building and salvaging the parts that can be re-used.

Material coming from deconstruction often includes, but is not limited to, lumber, doors, windows, cabinetry and hardwood flooring. By Choosing deconstruction, homeowners and builders can lower their carbon footprint and help to divert those reuseabe materials from the landfill.

Home ReSource has participated in deconstruction in the past and is open to doing it again, since we  have such a small staff, we have not yet made it part of our regular business.

If we are not able to help you with your deconstruction project, we would be willing to help you find someone to do the job, or point you in the direction of contractors who will do it.

Please check our donation page for items we accept and sell.

Generally we start at 50% off the new retail price, and we always consider the condition of the item when pricing.

Almost all items in the yard are negotiable.

No, Home ReSource accepts cash and checks only.

Yes.

We prefer that you bring the items to us, but if you have a large load of reuseable material we can do pick ups. Generally we will have to schedule them at least one week in advance so please be patient with us. Also there is a $25 fee for pick ups in the Steamboat area,(Can be extra charges for those who are farther out) which is necessary to continue this service.

Donations from deconstruction and remodeling jobs, public drop-off, and business surplus.

Home ReSource is located right at the Milner Landfill. The physical address is 20650 County Rd 205 Steamboat Springs, CO 80488. To get to Home ReSource from Steamboat take Hwy 40 West out of Steamboat, Milner is about 11 miles west of Steamboat. About a mile after Milner there is a sign for the landfill at County Road 205, take a left and Home ReSource is about another mile up the road

To pay staff mostly, also for marketing and advertising, and whatever we can save for putting up new buildings to get more of our inventory out of the weather.

We rely on a variety of sources for funding; individual donors, businesses, grants, and of course the money we make in the yard.

You can bring by your items to donate during Home ReSource's operating hours. (see location and hours page) All items must be approved by a staff member of Home ReSource so please do not just dump things on our doorstep.

Please see our Donation page for items that we accept and sell. If you are unsure about an item feel free to call (970.879.6985) or email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) us.

Often, we are selective about the condition of materials that we accept. We do not accept materials that are broken, rotted, or slightly damaged. We reserve the right to refuse an item we have an overstock of in our inventory. Also since we are located mostly outside, we try not to accept items that will not weather well.

We do not refund money, so please take the time to check out the item thoroughly, taking measurements, etc before purchasing.

We do exchange items with a receipt of purchase for a similar item, if brought back the next day or shortly thereafter.

We do not guarantee any of our appliances or mechanical items.

Yes, if you have a non-profit in need, send them our way.

Think Flea Market; be prepared to find anything. Be prepared for any kind of weather. We are muddy in the spring and fall (Bring boots), we are hot in the summer (bring a hat and water), and it is cold and snowy in the winter (Dress EXTRA warm). Wear clothes you don't care about and closed toed shoes are always a good idea.

Those who enjoy shopping with us the most are usually creative, have the ability to improvise, not rigid in their needs or expectations, are do it yourselfers, collectors, and artists.

Take exact measurements before you come, bring a color swatch, or picture of the space, bring a tape measure, then make a wish list of everything else you are wanting for your house (head for a sprinkler, a stove knob, closet hook, picture frame, vase, garage shelf, extension cord) and whatever specifications you’d need these random items to meet in order to purchase them.

And bring cash or a check, as we do not accept credit cards.

We have been up and running consistently, with regular hours, since 2007, and sporadically since 2004.

Yes! We are always interested in working with individuals who want to help make a difference.

Opportunities range from spending a few hours each week cleaning and organizing our inventory, to marketing, to serving on an event planning committee.

We share a phone line with Twin Enviro Services so when you call please just ask for Home ReSource 970-879-6985
