Home ReSource is a non-profit salvage and surplus building supplies
yard, and a program of the
Community Alliance of Yampa Valley.
- What function does it serve?
We keep reusable materials
out of the landfill and offer them to the public at a greatly
reduced price.
To preserve our natural resources, by promoting reuse, and to give
customers more possibilities on smaller budgets.
We work with builders who bring us their surplus and
community members who bring us their decon materials. We sort these
and make available for resale out at Twin Enviro Services, Tues – Sat
9 -3
We have and are open to doing it again, although we always have more
to do than staff to do it, so we have not yet made it part of our
regular business. If we are not able to, we can also help you find
someone to do the job, or point you in the direction of contractors
who will do it.
Deconstruction involves
carefully dismantling a building and salvaging the parts that can be
re-used. Material coming from deconstruction often includes, but is
not limited to, lumber, doors, windows, cabinetry and hardwood
flooring. By choosing deconstruction, homeowners and builders can
save precious natural resources and help divert material from the
landfill.
To divert reusable materials from the landfill, reducing our
environmental impact, particularly from construction, and providing
affordable options to the public.
Lumber, roofing supplies, doors, windows, wood stoves, bathtubs,
mirrors, glass blocks, tile, nails, screws, plumbing, blinds,
ceiling fans, lighting, hot tubs, sinks, solar thermal panels,
appliances, cabinets, counter tops, shelving, door knobs, cabinet
knobs, grout, paint, screens, tools, cement board, some furniture,
bed frames, bikes, scooters, kids playhouses, dog houses, animal
cages, outdoor heaters, planters, floor fans, skiis, snowboards,
antiques, unique art mediums and supplies, old signs, fishing poles,
gardening tools, etc.
Antique stoves, light fixtures, safes, glass bottles, tools,
windows, and doors mostly, but sometimes antique furniture, bikes,
water well pumps, etc.
Generally we go
half off new price, and then down from there according to condition.
Items that sell well may be a bit higher than 50%; items that don’t
sell well may be lower than 50%. To see our general price guidelines
for different categories of materials
click here. And most things in the
store are negotiable.
No, we do take checks though, and of course cash.
Usually we only have one person working in the yard serving
customers, so it is not always possible to locate items for people
on the phone. We can give you a general idea if that is something we
carry and have in stock. If it is not time sensitive you can leave
your name and number and what it is you’re looking for and when the
yard person has time they can hunt it down and get back to you.
No and yes. Everyone wants
us to pickup their materials, unfortunately the demand is too great
and there is only one of Dave (who is the only one of us with a
truck), so when there is time he will come pick up, but only if
there is no way you can get it there yourself, and we ask for a $25
tax deductible donation, which is some-what optional, but necessary
to continue this service.
Donations from deconstruction and remodeling jobs, public
drop-off, and business surplus. To see our list of donors

Twin
Enviro Services has graciously allowed us to open shop
beside the landfill just west of Milner. 20650 County Rd 205
Steamboat Springs, CO 80488. For a map,
- How do I get there from Steamboat?
Take Lincoln / Hwy 40
west out of Steamboat, about a mile after Milner there is a sign for
the landfill at County Rd 205, turn left here, about another mile
and a half. You’ll go over a bridge and then the road will curve
left right into the landfill gate. Total distance from center of
Steamboat is about 13 miles. For a map,
We are able to catch a lot of useful items on their way to
being dumped.
No, we are a non-profit. What we do, takes money away from Les and
the landfill because we keep materials that would otherwise be
thrown away in many cases. We are however extending the life of the
landfill by keeping reusable materials out of it, so they will be
able to operate for longer rather than having to close it down and
create a new one, so in that way Les is benefiting possibly.
To pay staff mostly, also for marketing and advertising, and
whatever we can save for putting up new buildings to get more of our
inventory out of the weather.

Where does ReSource get its funding?
We rely on a variety of sources for
funding; individual donors, businesses, grants, and of course the
money we make in the yard.
Mail a check made out to Home ReSource to David Epstein,
David Epstein at P.O.Box 774362 Steamboat Springs, Colorado, or
donate money anytime you visit our site.
To check out list of what we accept and don’t accept
what you have is on the list for what we accept, and if it looks
good and works great, bring it by. If it’s not on either list, or if
it’s on the do not accept list but it’s in excellent condition, call
and ask. We accept material donations anytime we are open for
business. Store hours are Summer Mon – Sat 9-3pm, Winter Tues and
Sat 10-3pm

Why do you turn materials away?
Because of our limited space, an item
that doesn't sell is only keeping us from diverting more material
from the landfill. As a result, we have to be selective about the
condition of materials that we accept. We do not accept materials
that are broken, rotted, or slightly damaged. We also sometimes
have to refuse materials if we have an overstock at the time.
No, we have to make money to pay our staff, so we don’t accept
trades. We also don’t accept items on consignment. Donations of
materials are however tax deductible.
We do not refund money, so please take the time to check out
the item thoroughly, taking measurements, etc before purchasing. We
do exchange items with a receipt of purchase for a similar item, if
brought back the next day or shortly thereafter. We do not guarantee
any of our appliances or mechanical items.
We
do sometimes, because of almost non-existent budget, barter
materials for services, but never for other materials.
Yes, we are usually willing to negotiate prices and want all of our
customers to walk away feeling like they got a great deal. For a
general price guideline

Of course, if you have a non-profit in need, send them our way.

Think giant garage sale; be prepared to find anything. Those who
enjoy shopping with us the most are usually creative, have the
ability to improvise, not rigid in their needs or expectations, are
do it yourselfers, collectors, and artists.
We keep a bulletin board full of wanted items and contact numbers
and will call you when we get it in if it isn’t there the first time
you come. Sometimes the most random item comes in right after
someone asks for it, and sometimes it takes months to get in a
specific item.
Take exact measurements
before you come, bring a color swatch, or picture of the space,
bring a tape measurer (as our are often in use or missing), then
make a wish list of everything else you are wanting for your house
(head for a sprinkler, a stove knob, closet hook, picture frame,
vase, garage shelf, extension cord) and whatever specifications
you’d need these random items to meet in order to purchase them. And
bring cash or a check, as we do not accept credit cards.
We have been up and running consistently, with regular hours, since
2007, and sporadically since 2004.
Yes!
We are always interested in working with individuals who want to
help make a difference. Opportunities range from spending a few
hours each week cleaning and organizing our inventory, to marketing,
to serving on an event planning committee.
Summer time is Mon – Sat 9 –3pm Winter is Tues and Sat 9 –
3pm
